Joan and Ron's Bring & Buy
Joan & Ron's Bring & Buy - Thursday 25 August 2016
Our Church, St. George`s United Reformed Church, Northway, Maghull, has always worked hard to support two nominated charities, per annum, one `home` and one `abroad`. This year `Water Aid` and`Congenital Melanocytic Naevi`. Most folk know about Water Aid; I don`t know about you, but every time I see a tap running I rush to turn it off, very aware of women and children (usually) walking miles carrying buckets of water. The other charity, CMN was a `new one` to me, though I did know `naevi` meant birth mark.
A relatively small charity, the young woman who came to talk to us, moved everyone, with her photos of children affected by these disfiguring birthmarks. She herself had been disfigured by this cruel condition but our incredible NHS had helped her and many others, and supported the families through repeated medical interventions. We did not do anything fancy within our church family, we just got together and had a good old-fashioned bring and buy sale with tea and homemade cakes to round off a nice afternoon. We raised:
£40.70 in sales
£17.00 in the raffle
£95.00 in donations
In Total £152.70 - a very commendable amount to add to our charities.
Cupboards and drawers were emptied, jewellery and china donated and a nice feeling that we had done a bit to help others by re-cycling stuff. I think this will definitely become an annual event!
